MAT540 Statistical Concepts for Research FINAL PAPER (8-10 double spaced pages)

Draft can be found below. With quite a bit of guidance for this paper!

Application, Interpretation, and Presentation of Statistics

Over the past few weeks, you have explored a variety of statistical techniques that each play an important role in conducting research. For this Final Paper, you will evaluate the application, interpretations, and presentation of statistics in formal and informal research studies.

Begin by locating three research studies to analyze for your Final Paper, based on the three statistical techniques below:

  • At least one study should display data through graphs, tables, and/or charts.
  • At least one study should describe the hypothesis testing procedure that was used (either explicitly /specifically, or implicitly/generally).
  • At least one study should use inferential statistical analysis tests or correlation/regression approaches.

Once you have selected your three research studies, develop a paper using the format below as a guide.

Final Paper Structure

  • Opening: State which three specific statistical procedures you will be evaluating.
  • Thesis: Describe how these statistical procedures been used to answer research questions.
  • Literature Review: For each study presented, state the research question being asked.
    • Explain how the illustrated statistical procedure helped to answer each research question.
  • Statistical Discussion: Analyze the value, strengths, and weaknesses of each statistical technique in answering formal and informal research questions.
  • Conclusion: Summarize the general use of statistical tools in quantitative research studies.

The Final Paper

  • Must be 8 to 10 double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center’s APA Style (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

If you have questions about whether a specific source is appropriate for this assignment, please contact your instructor. Your instructor has the final say about the appropriateness of a specific source for a particular assignment.
  • Must document any information used from sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center’s Citing Within Your Paper (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. guide.

Draft Final Paper

The three studies which I located are:

Ø  Statistical analysis on government expenditure

Ø  Statistical analysis on criminal offences recorded in a country

Ø  Statistical analysis on child survival at birth

1.     Statistical analysis on government expenditure

The research question being asked in this study is: What is the impact of government expenditure on economic growth in a country?

Both primary and secondary data are required to carry out the study. Secondary data comprises of annual reports given by the government stating its spending’s (Lind, Marchal, & Wathen, 2017). Findings from the study indicates government expenditure in sectors such as infrastructure, education, health sectors and security units. This study displays its data through graphs and tables. One is able to study the table and find out the way government spends to ensure economic growth in the county.

2.     Statistical analysis on criminal offences recorded in a country

The research question being asked in this study is; what are the challenges the country face due to increased drug abuse? The most affected age group, gender and which educational background?

Due to increased crime rates in the country, the government has a record of the most affected age group and the most affected age group. This study uses the hypothesis testing procedure to display its findings. This technique involves the hypothesis to be tested. The research hypothesis is described as shown below

Hypothesis 1

H0: There is no relationship between age and criminal offences recorded in the country.

H1: There is a relationship between age and criminal offences recorded in the country. If the significance value is 0.01, reject H0 if P value is less than the significance value and accept if otherwise.

Hypothesis 2

H0: There is no relationship between educational background and criminal offences recorded in the country.

H1: There is a relationship between educational background and criminal offences

recorded in the country. If the significance value is 0.01, reject H0 if P value is less than the significance value and accept if otherwise.

Hypothesis 3

H0: There is no relationship between gender and criminal offences recorded in the country.

H1: There is a relationship between gender and criminal offences recorded in the country.

If the significance value is 0.01, reject H0 IF P value is less than the significance value and accept if otherwise.

3.     Statistical analysis on child survival at birth

The research question being asked in this study is; what are the possible causes of death on delivery? Effects of poverty on infant mortality rate?

According to previous studies and research there is a number of recorded dead infants every year. In this study I am going to do analysis on the number of infants who die on deliveries and try to find out the possible causes of dead.

This study uses Correlation/regression approaches.

Regression analysis examines the average relationship between variables.

Correlation establishes the direction and strength of association between variables (Lind, Marchal, & Wathen, 2017). The variables in this study are deliveries and mortality rate. The variables are assigned values
