Why We Need Growth Hormones

,

“The pituitary gland is a structure in our brain that produces different types of specialised hormones, including growth hormone (also referred to as human growth hormone or HGH). The roles of growth hormone include influencing our height, and helping build our bones and muscles. Natural levels of growth hormone fluctuate during the day, seemingly influenced by physical activity” (Better Health Channel). The human growth hormone helps control the body’s metabolism. If children or adults have an increase or decrease of growth hormones it can lead to future problems. Growth hormones are also used to treat children and adults, in children the treatment is used for growth hormone deficiency, kidney disease, turner syndrome, as well as prader-willi syndrome (Bancos, 2018). In adults the treatment is used for growth hormone deficiency, muscle wasting, and short bowel syndrome (Bancos, 2018). “Acromegaly is a disorder caused by excess levels of growth hormone, most commonly as a result of a tumour in that person’s pituitary gland. It causes an irreversible overgrowth of bones, particularly those of the face, hands and feet. The person’s skin is also affected and becomes thick, coarse and hairy” (Better Health Channel). Over all, the human growth hormone plays a huge act in making you who you are.
