1. Recording

 Select a radio, television, or online commercial that is approximately 30 to 60 sec in length. You will need to have a written copy of most of the words in the commercial for this assignment. (You should record the television commercial, if possible.) The commercial can be on any topic appropriate for a college assignment and for the academic environment. (If you are unsure of your choice, contact your instructor before choosing your commercial.) The message in this commercial must be based primarily on spoken words and not on images since the focus of this assignment is on delivery, voice, and language adaptation.

Prepare to deliver three different oral delivery messages (in one recording) of this commercial. You will deliver this one commercial three different times, based on three specific situations.

Select three of the four possible situations to use for your oral messages.

1. You are angry.
2. You are excited.
3. You are afraid.
4. You are unhappy.

You can use each situation only once. Make sure you deliver a total of three specific messages in the one recording.

1. Purpose of assignment: Demonstrate differences you decide to make in volume, rate, pitch, and language adaptation. This is an extemporaneous speaking task. Do not read word for word or memorize the message. This will be evident in your voice and delivery.
2. Purpose of the speech: You will deliver a speech while utilizing principles of effective vocal delivery.
3. Any special requirements: You must demonstrate the elements of vocal delivery.
4. Speech delivery: You must use proper oral language in a public speech.

Hints: Many people don’t realize that public speaking IS acting. Sometimes you may not be very excited about the message or material you are delivering but you have to “fake it ’til you make it!” It may feel very odd to overdo your facial expressions and it may even seem forced or fake. However, it is important that you try. Go with the rule: The odder and more uncomfortable it feels – the better it looks!

4. Speech draft(550 words) and  six-slide presentational aid 

Using the topic you selected in Lesson 3, the comments and feedback from your instructor on your midterm, your Revised Speech Rehearsal 1, and elements from the subsequent lessons, you will deliver your second attempt at your speech.

You will record your speech using a video camera or other appropriate video recording device. You will then upload your video to Wistia so that your instructor can view, score, and provide feedback on your video.

1. Purpose of assignment: The purpose of this assignment is to apply what you have learned thus far in the public speaking course in terms of content and delivery into a speech performance. You must also make adjustments from your first performance based on your instructor comments.
2. Purpose of the speech: The purpose of the speech is to inform, persuade, or entertain your audience.
3. Any special requirements: You will use the topic you chose in Lesson 3 and the outline you wrote for your midterm (including any revisions back on the instructor’s comments on those lessons).
4. Speech delivery: Make sure that you are applying the delivery focus areas you have practiced in your video eJournals. Do not simply read a pre-written speech but make sure that you are connecting to the audience.
5. Level of research: For the level of research required for this speech, refer to your outline assignment in your midterm, as well as any instructor comments from that midterm and the first speech rehearsal.
6. Time limit: Your speech should be 5-7 minutes long.
7. Special requirements: Make sure you are using the visual aid you developed for your speech.

 Develop a six-slide presentational aid using PowerPoint, Prezi, Keynote, or some other form of digital slides for your Audience speech.
